The Power of Music

There’s a reason sharing music is a love language. Because when someone shares a playlist with another person, it’s a sign of vulnerability where the giver feels comfortable sharing their different playlists, their inner world, with that person. It’s an intimate love. You share your most treasured playlists with the people you care deeply about, the people you share a special connection with, the ones you vibe with, that will accept your music taste for what it is.

And then when that person is no longer in your life, it hurts deep. You can’t share any more music with each other, or else bring on the awkwardness. It’s difficult to disassociate those artists and playlists you shared with that person. But over time, you tell yourself that you can listen to them regardless. No one can take that music away from you. It will always sting when you do listen to them; just maybe a little less every time. Until eventually, it doesn’t. But you know that you’ll always think about that person in the background. Because there’s reason you wanted to share those specific playlists with them.

And I haven’t even touched upon the power of the lyrics. Next time you listen to one of your favorite me artists, listen carefully to the words if you can. Listen to the beats, the rhythm in the background. It’s another form of art. It’s freeform art. When you can’t speak the words to something you’re feeling, lyrics can take their place. A whole song can take its place.

These images are from two concerts: one is blackbear and the other is Kid Cudi. One you may have heard of more than the other. I encourage you to listen to both of their songs more closely. The lyrics are powerful.

Happy listening. :)
